Asparagus
1. When – Plant in the spring. If you live in a climate with a mild winter, you can also plant in the fall.
2. Where – 8 hours of sun. Avoid planting near other tall plants/trees.
3. How – Dig a trench 18 inches wide and 10 inches deep. Add 6 inches of compost and place your seeds/crowns two feet apart. Lastly, add a thin layer of compost on top, around 2 inches thick.
4. Harvesting – Once the asparagus shoots reach 4-8 inches in length, snap them off at ground level.
5. Tips – Fertilize with 5-10-5. Be sure to not allow the asparagus shoots to grow longer than around 8 inches, or they are past their prime and not as edible.
