Broccoli
1. When – Plant in the spring. If you live in a climate with a mild winter, you can also plant in the fall.
2. Where – 6-8 hours of sun. Partial shade if you are in a warm climate to prevent bolting.
3. How – Grow broccoli into seedlings inside about 4-6 weeks before planting. Next plant the seedlings 1.5 feet apart in rows 3 feet apart. Add a thick layer of mulch on top. About 30-45 days after growing outdoors fertilize with 10-10-10.
4. Harvesting – Wait till the broccoli head is fully developed but before the fleurets open on the broccoli. Cut 5 or 6 inches below the broccoli head.
5. Tips – Fertilize with 5-10-10 or 10-10-10. After harvesting the first broccoli head more shoots can appear which will produce more heads. Don’t plant broccoli in the same place 2 years in a row, as they are very sensitive to soil borne diseases.
