How to Grow- Cauliflower

Vegetable:

Cauliflower

1. When – Plant in the spring. If you live in a climate with a mild winter, you can also plant in the fall.

2. Where – 6-8 hours of sun. If you are in a warm climate, planting in partial shade can work well to prevent bolting. Plant in a location with acidic soil.

3. How – Grow cauliflower into seedlings inside about 4-6 weeks before planting. Next plant the seedlings 1.5-2 feet apart in rows 3 feet apart. Add a thick layer of mulch on top. About 30-45 days of growth outdoors, fertilize with 10-10-10.

4. Harvesting – Wait till the cauliflower head feels firm and is fully developed (8-12 inches) but before the fleurets open. Cut just below the head.

5. Tips – Fertilize with 10-10-10. After harvesting the first cauliflower head more shoots can appear which will produce more heads. Adding lime to the soil a few months ahead of planting will increase acidity. If you are growing white cauliflower, cover the cauliflower by wrapping it in the leaves, this process is called blanching.
