How to Grow – Grapes

Vegetable:

Grapes

1. When – Plant in the early spring or late winter.

2. Where – 6-8 hours of full sun. A trellis for the plants to climb on is useful to assist with harvesting and growth later on.

3. How -Dig a trench 1 foot wide and fill with a mix or compost and topsoil prior to planting. Plant the grapes slightly deeper than they were in the container from the nursery. Then backfill with soil and tamp down.

4. Harvesting – Don’t harvest from the plant in the first year of growth as it can reduce the growth of the plant. In the second year wait for the fruit to get fully ripe before harvesting.

5. Tips – Fertilize with 10-10-10 every year a month before spring by spreading a cup or so of fertilizer in a ring around the plant. The best trellis for grapes is to stretch string or wire between 2 or more posts at 3ft from the ground and 5.5ft from the ground.
