Onion
1. When – Plant in the early spring. If you live in a climate with a mild winter, you can also plant in the fall.
2. Where – A place with rich, workable soil that gets as much sun as possible.
3. How – Work soil well, with a spade, about 8 inches down. Seed rows should be about 1 foot apart, and half an inch deep. STEP 2- Once the plant reaches 2 inches thin out the row. Then thin again when the plant reaches 4 inches, there should be 2 inches between each plant. Fertilize after final thinning.
4. Harvesting -Onions should be ready 5 months after sowing the seeds. you may also be able to tell they are ready by the yellowing of the leaves. After harvest the onions should be dried for about 2-3 weeks after harvest.
5. Tips – Fertilize with 5-10-10. Succession plant onions in 6 week intervals, to better manage your harvest.
