1. When – Plant plant in early spring. The peas like cool weather and can stop producing if it gets too hot.

2. Where – 6-8 hours of full sun. A trellis for the plants to climb on is useful to assist with harvesting later on. Also a trellis helps give stability to the plant, to prevent damage from winds.

3. How – Dig a trench 2 inches deep and 4 inches wide. Install a support for the peas to attach to. Plants should be spaced 3-6 inches apart.

4. Harvesting – Peas can be harvested early and eaten as full pods. If allowed to mature the outer pod needs to be removed and the peas can be eaten on the inside. The most mature pods can be saved, dried, and planted for next season’s crop.

5. Tips – Fertilize with 5-10-10 when first planting. A trellis is highly recommended, diseases such as powdery mildew is common to pick up off the ground. Peas can easily grow up a fence, a piece of twine, or even a plant like corn.
