How to Grow- Strawberries

Vegetable:

Strawberries

1. When – Plant in the early spring, as early as a few weeks before your first spring frost date.

2. Where – 10 or more hours of sunlight is best. A minimum of around 6 will be needed for the plant to bear fruit. Avoid planting in areas that receive too much shade.

3. How – Dig small holes around 12-18 inches apart. Plant each plant deep enough so no roots are showing. Be sure to water thoroughly after first planting.

4. Harvesting – Check your strawberry plants preferably weekly or every other week. Once you see a flower, it will take around 4-6 weeks to produce a fruit. Once the strawberry is no longer white and is a light to dark red, it is ready to eat.

5. Tips – You will see many runners coming off the strawberry plant. This is one way in which the plant reproduces. Once you see the runner developing roots, these can be cut off from the main plant and planted in other areas of your garden.
